International Motorcycle Day Revs Up as the World's Largest Biker Event

Today marks International Motorcycle Day, the world’s largest biker event. Between 750,000 and 1 million riders take part each year. The holiday promotes motorcycles as a practical way to travel instead of cars. The idea began in 1989 with Andy Goldfine, founder of motorcycle gear company Aerostich. He wanted to encourage more people to ride bikes for everyday trips. Three years later, in 1992, the first official event took place.

Since then, the celebration has grown into a global gathering. Riders swap four wheels for two on their daily commutes. The event highlights motorcycles not just as hobbies but as reliable transport.

International Motorcycle Day now draws nearly a million participants annually. It remains the biggest biker event worldwide. The tradition continues to push motorcycles into mainstream commuting.
