Landslide devastates Georgian village, leaving dozens homeless and highway blocked

A massive landslide struck the small village of Kursebi in Tkibuli municipality, western Georgia, on 12 March 2026. The disaster has left 45 families without homes and caused widespread destruction across 58 hectares of land. The landslide hit near the coordinates [42.30907, 42.79007], devastating the area. At least ten houses were completely destroyed, forcing residents to evacuate. The force of the landslide also damaged the Kutaisi-Tkibuli highway at the 6th kilometre, blocking all transport on that stretch.

Authorities immediately closed the affected road, rerouting traffic through Magaro village. As of 30 March 2026, no updates have been provided on when the highway might reopen or whether alternative infrastructure plans are in place.

The disaster has left dozens displaced and disrupted a key transport route. Recovery efforts continue, but no timeline has been set for restoring access or rebuilding damaged properties.
