Russia's engineering schools forge new ties with shipbuilding giants at landmark conference
A national conference on engineering education has led to new partnerships between schools and major industries. Held in Severodvinsk, the event brought together educators from 15 regions to strengthen Russia's technical training. Nizhny Novgorod's teachers played a key role by sharing their experience and securing agreements with leading enterprises. The conference, titled Building Russia's Engineering Potential, focused on improving technical education for students. Representatives from 15 regions attended, including educators from Nizhny Novgorod's School No. 183. They presented their approach to engineering classes, which includes subject-specific Olympiads and intensive training programmes.
During the event, School No. 183 formalised a cooperation agreement with Sevmash, one of Russia's largest shipbuilding companies. The deal was signed in Severodvinsk, where attendees also toured Sevmash facilities and observed submarine production. The school already collaborates with the industry, having hosted the Sevmash-organised Shipbuilding Olympiad. The conference resulted in broader plans to expand engineering education. These include creating a unified training programme, establishing 50 new engineering centres by 2026, and forming partnerships with companies like Rosatom. Nizhny Novgorod's Sormovo District also highlighted its educational shipbuilding cluster, linking schools with industrial partners.
The agreement between School No. 183 and Sevmash will integrate practical training into the curriculum. The nationwide initiative aims to standardise engineering education and increase industry involvement. New centres and partnerships are expected to provide students with more hands-on technical experience.
