Russia's trains to offer high-speed satellite internet for uninterrupted travel
Russia's long-distance trains will soon provide passengers with stable high-speed internet. The new service, announced by Federal Passenger Company, will keep travellers connected even in areas with poor mobile coverage.
Vladimir Pyastolov, the company's CEO, confirmed the plans to introduce broadband access across its network. The system will use a domestic low-orbit satellite network, ensuring continuous connectivity for passengers.
This summer, routes to the Black Sea coast and the Caucasian Mineral Waters resorts will be among the busiest. A total of 164 train pairs will operate on these lines, making over 30,000 trips. The project marks the first documented use of Russia's own satellite technology for internet access on public transport. No previous pilot schemes or similar initiatives in rail travel have been reported.
The new service aims to let passengers stay online without interruption. It will rely entirely on Russia's satellite infrastructure rather than ground-based networks. Rollout details and exact timings have yet to be announced.
