Water Base Fees Significantly Increased - Saxony-Anhalt's water bills surge as infrastructure upgrades drive costs higher
Households in Saxony-Anhalt are facing sharply higher costs for water and wastewater services. Over the past three years, base charges have climbed by nearly €47, pushing annual bills up significantly. The latest figures show residents paid €281.49 in 2023, compared to €234.90 just a year earlier.
The steady rise in water prices has been building for over a decade. Since 2011, drinking water costs alone have jumped by nearly 25% on average. Between 2022 and 2023, the consumption-based price for drinking water surged by 14.2%, adding further pressure on budgets.
Infrastructure upgrades are a major factor behind the increases. Saxony-Anhalt is set to receive around €116 million in EU and federal funding to modernise its basecamp systems. These investments, while necessary, are contributing to the rising fees.
By 2025, the combined average cost of water and wastewater base fees is projected to be nearly 20% higher than in 2022. The trend reflects both long-term price growth and recent sharp hikes in service charges.
The latest data confirms a clear upward trend in water and wastewater expenses for residents. With base fees rising by €47 in just three years, households now face annual bills of over €280. The ongoing infrastructure work, supported by significant public funding, continues to shape these cost increases.
