Suzuki Fronx returns to NZ after critical seatbelt recall fixes

The Suzuki Fronx small SUV is back on the market in New Zealand after a three-month pause. The vehicle was withdrawn in late 2025 due to a serious safety flaw in its rear seatbelts. Over 100 units were sold within the first week of its return on 16 March 2026. The Fronx was pulled from sale after failing ANCAP crash tests. The rear seatbelt retractor malfunctioned, risking severe injury or death in a collision. As a result, the model received a one-star safety rating.

New Zealand's transport agency, Waka Kotahi, advised owners against carrying rear passengers until repairs were made. Suzuki New Zealand prioritised private owners in the recall, aiming to replace both rear seatbelt retractors by late April. Before the issue, the Fronx had been a strong seller for Suzuki, ranking second in the brand's 2025 sales. Its return strengthens Suzuki's position in the competitive compact SUV market, alongside the popular Jimny.

The Fronx is now available again after fixing the seatbelt defect. Dealers have already delivered more than 100 units since its relaunch. The recall process remains ongoing for affected owners.
