A group of three climbers reached the summit of Big Almaty Peak before one of them fell ill during the descent. The 3,300-metre peak posed challenges as a 19-year-old man developed altitude sickness on the way down. Rescue teams were alerted and responded quickly to assist.
The climbers had successfully reached the top of Big Almaty Peak when one member began showing signs of altitude sickness. The 19-year-old’s condition worsened as they descended, prompting the group to contact rescuers. They shared their exact location to ensure a swift response.
Rescuers from Almaty’s Rescue Service arrived at the scene and guided the group to the Alma-Arasan eco-post. Once at lower altitude, the young man’s symptoms eased, and his health stabilised. Medical intervention was not needed, and the climbers were able to continue without further assistance. After recovering, the group made their own way home. Rescue teams confirmed no additional support was required following the evacuation.
The incident ended without serious consequences, as the climber’s health improved after descending. The group left the area independently, having maintained clear communication with rescuers throughout the ordeal. No further medical treatment was necessary.
